Hi, and welcome to Day 1 of 21 Days of Self-Care. Over the next 3 weeks, I’m going to share with you some habits and practices to help you improve your health and well-being. These are drawn from the habits and lessons in my nutrition and exercise coaching programs, using Precision Nutrition’s ProCoach platform.
My goal is to provide you a base for a targeted recovery strategy. You don’t get fitter and healthier during a workout; you get fitter and healthier because your body can rebuild between workouts. And we can’t always just let recovery happen, let it come to us; sometimes we have to take action, to chase that recovery.
Think about all the things that could help your body, mind and spirit recover from the demands of your life and activities. Things like eating lean protein at every meal; eating enough colorful fruits and vegetables; creating and practicing a night-time sleep ritual (or maybe just scheduling a nap once in a while); planning and preparing nourishing meals; doing some “non-exercise” fun movement (you remember fun, right?); keeping your muscles and joints happy with mobility work, stretching or foam-rolling; and taking some quiet time out in nature.
